Regarding to wedding, there is an old saying "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe." Although many people may have heard of this, not many of them will know the meaning behind these items. In fact, all these are items that will bring good luck to the couple.
Something Old
This essentially means that the bride does not to break away from her old ties, although she will have a new life after marriage. And this also shows the connection between the old stuff and the new stuff. Practically, the bride will usually wear something that her mother or grandmother used before. For example, the she may wear the wedding rings of her mother on her right hand. On the other hand, she may also choose to put a piece of lace from the gown of her mother to her new gown.
Something Borrowed
The bride will also wear something which is borrowed from the others. She will borrow something from a person that is extremely important to her. And this is the way to show the importance of the once who lends to the bride. Usually this person will be her best friend or close relative. It is not difficult to imagine that there people would be very important to her. Particularly, brides will borrow from the best friend of her mother or grandmother. Again, items such as wedding rings will be borrowed.
